My name is Amy Blea. I am an apparel designer, educator and entrepreneur . I have a business degree and worked in advertising agencies before taking a creative journey to New York City...

Mod Dress in black made from repurposed fabric.
In New York, I attended the Fashion Institute of Technology. There my passion for textiles, color, and working with my hands grew and grew. I studied draping, tailoring, pattern-making, leatherwork and illustration. Immersed in the history of fashion and couture giants, I learned the techniques to express what I saw in my mind.
Darla Dress in red made from double-faced cotton linen weave fabric.
After graduating with a degree in Apparel Design, I worked for companies including Nanette Lepore and Chaps Ralph Lauren. During this time, I couldn’t stop thinking about my vision to create a collection of wearable clothing for women.
Growing a business was both satisfying and challenging. I forged relationships with boutique owners, suppliers and craftspeople. For material, I searched flea markets, dtla wholesalers and thrift stores.
In 2004, I launched Seed Clothing, contemporary clothing line sold in small boutiques and online. Everything was hand made locally and most items were one-of-a-kind.
When I saw people searching to learn how to sew and make their own clothes as part of the DIY movement, I started developing and teaching workshops. My sewing and patternmaking courses became very popular in local communities, makerspaces and colleges.
